Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) has donated 50 desks worth K2 million to Kabwinja Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Dowa district as part of the company\u2019s commitment to support efforts to improve education standards in the country.<\/p>\n
Speaking when he made the donation, PIL General Manager Enwel Kadango said the company has set aside K50 million to support various initiatives in the education and health sectors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a plan as PIL for the whole year. We do this activity every month and normally we help in the health and education sectors. In the health sector, we provide equipment or drugs which are needed and, if we are donating to a school such as a CDSS, we provide books, textbooks or desks\u201d Kadango said.<\/p>\n
He said PIL is aware of the existing gaps in the sectors that make it difficult to achieve quality service delivery hence the commitment to offer support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are several sectors we can go to but we are prioritising these two sectors for the time being because we saw the effort government is putting but while government is trying,there is need for the private sector to come in to improve the situation\u201d Kadango said.<\/p>\n
Kabwinja CDSS Headmaster Beston Chiphale commended PIL\u2019s efforts stressing that many students, especially girls, have to walk long distances to attend classes but that a poor learning environment continues to affect their performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very pathetic when we had no desks, girls were very vulnerable learning while sitting on the floor. Many joined other schools which they felt were conducive for learning\u201d Chiphale said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
