The game can also be shifted to either neutral Civo Stadium or even in Mzuzu. Zomba is too small and playing there would not be doing any good to the teams, the sponsor and the fans. We are not afraid of the game but the safety of the fans,” Nyirenda said yesterday.

His Bullets counterpart, Albert Chigoga, Monday said they would write to Fam over the similar concerns.

Chigoga said their Executive Committee would agree on the alternative venue between either Kalulu Stadium in Chikwawa District or Mulanje Park Stadium.

“We share Silver’s concerns. In fact, I am just coming out of a meeting where we discussed the same issue. We have called Fam and they have told us to put our concerns in writing. Meanwhile, we have dispatched a team to Mulanje to assess the stadium,” said Chigoga, whose team lost 0-1 to Silver in the first-leg last Saturday.

Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, yesterday reserved his comment, saying he needed to consult the people who are on the ground.

Blantyre has been hit by a lack of playing venues. In Lilongwe, most teams own stadiums and playing grounds, courtesy of their sponsors mostly the government institutions.

Reserve Bank of Malawi funded the construction of Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Bullets, for all their rich history and having been sponsored by Bata Shoe Company, Total Malawi, former president Bakili Muluzi and Cifu Group and now Nyasa Manufacturing Company, do not have their own venue.

Lack of stability in Bullets’ management, which is at the mercy of fans, undermines any infrastructure development efforts.
