Sparc Systems, which is an ICT firm, on Tuesday donated theatre-beds and trolleys to Gogo Chatinkha Maternity Wing at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (Qech).<\/p>\n
The donation, which is valued at K3 million, was facilitated by the Chatinkha Maternity Care Support (Chamaca).<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s Managing Director, Wisely Phiri, said as a Malawian company, they would like to see the Chatinkha Maternity Wing improve to a standard compatible with those of local private hospitals.<\/p>\n
Phiri said most patients, who are referred to the hospital, are from rural areas and low income earners hence the decision to donate.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our duty as Malawians to provide for those that live below the poverty line. If you look around, those that are well to do, do not come here for treatment, because this hospital is regarded as for poor people.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would like to change that by providing the wing with equipment that will match with those of private hospitals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the hospital management should also strive to take good care of the equipment so that companies should not be donating the very same things.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is your duty as management to ensure that the equipment is used properly for us to provide you with something different next time,\u201d Phiri said.<\/p>\n
Chamaca Chairman, Frank Taulo, said the wing also has a paying ward, hence the need for management to use the revenue collected to purchase more equipment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe little revenue we make from the paying ward should also help to transform our hospital. Let us use that money to procure more equipment as companies on the other side are assisting us,\u201d Taulo said.<\/p>\n
Qech Nursing Officer, Lucy Chigwenembe, said the hospital faces numerous challenges and needs support from local companies.<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernment is trying its best to provide for the necessary equipment, but the demand is too huge, hence the private sector should also play a role in making access to health easier,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
