Malawi\u2019s Flames star striker, Gabadinho Mhango, has missed out on a nomination for South Africa\u2019s authoritative football magazine, Kick-Off.<\/p>\n
The monthly magazine announced the final five-man shortlist for its Kick-Off Player of the Year Award <\/em>on Monday, hours after its rival publication, Soccer Laduma, nominated the Flames star.<\/p>\n However, Gabadinho\u2019s table-topping Bidvest Wits have contributed to the list Thulani Hlatshwayo alongside Mamelodi Sundowns\u2019 Percy Tau and Hlompho Kekana.<\/p>\n Isaac Kaliyati\u2019s Cape Town City boast on the short-list Captain Lebogang Manyama and Aubrey Ngoma.<\/p>\n Just like in the Soccer Laduma award, Kick-Off readers will vote online their ultimate winner. Voting closes on May 28.<\/p>\n Kick-Off editorial team made the short-list after looking at several factors such as impressive performance.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile each fan undoubtedly has their own favourites who may have missed the cut, Kick- Off would like to make honourable mention of those who only just missed a place in the top-five,\u201d reported www.kick-off.com yesterday.<\/p>\n \u201cKaizer Chiefs duo Siphiwe Tshabalala and Willard Katsande, as well as Bidvest Wits hitman Gabadinho Mhango and SuperSport United pair Jeremy Brockie and Thabo Mnyamane.\u201d<\/p>\n Gabadinho is the third leading South Africa Premier Soccer League scorer with nine goals, but he is way too inconsistent for Wits having now gone four games without scoring.<\/p>\n The former Nyasa Big Bullets player is, nonetheless, the only Malawian to earn consideration for such ceremonial awards this season.<\/p>\n Ernest Mtawali is the only Malawian to have won South Africa\u2019s top player award in the late 1980s while playing for Mamelodi Sundowns whereas the rest of the Malawians earn in-house club accolades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Malawi\u2019s Flames star striker, Gabadinho Mhango, has missed out on a nomination for South Africa\u2019s authoritative football magazine, Kick-Off.
