THREE police officers have been implicated in a scandal involving a civilian who was allegedly impersonating police officers and was duping people to give him money in exchange of recruitment into Malawi Police Service (MPS).<\/p>\n
The suspect, 28-year-old Herbert Mhango revealed that he was in the deal with three other police officers who the police have refused to disclose their identities.<\/p>\n
However, national police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, confirmed the development and that three police officers were implicated. \u201cThe information that I have is that the suspect is on remand at Limbe Police Station and the three police officers who were implicated are currently being investigated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, Kadadzera could not disclose the amount of money Mhango and the alleged three accomplices received from people.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me find out the details for you because the case was being handled in Blantyre so I will get back to you together with the names of the police officers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The syndicate was revealed when Vincent Nyadani from Thyolo complained to have been duped by Mhango.<\/p>\n
\u201cI met him [Mhango] through a friend and he told me to give him K150,000 for the whole process [of being recruited into MPS]. In August last year I met Mhango in Kanjedza where I gave him K60,000.<\/p>\n
On November 9 2016 Mhango gave me a letter that I could be recruited with the current [police] trainees and this time I gave him K30, 000.<\/p>\n
