{"id":45780,"date":"2017-05-05T10:29:25","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T08:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=45780"},"modified":"2017-05-05T10:29:26","modified_gmt":"2017-05-05T08:29:26","slug":"peter-mutharika-opens-parliament-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/05\/05\/peter-mutharika-opens-parliament-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Mutharika opens Parliament Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika Friday opens the 2017-2018 Budget meeting at 10am at the Parliament Building.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya made the announcement on Wednesday in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting which will be the 6th in the 46th Session of Parliament will run up to Friday, 30th June, 2017,\u201d reads the statement in part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Speaker is summoning all cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and members of Parliament to attend the meeting at the time indicated until adjournment <em>sine die<\/em>, and herein fail not,\u201d reads the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The office of the Speaker is further advising all invited guests to be seated by 8:30am in the Parliament Chamber, Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em>The Daily Times <\/em>Thursday, Leader of the House Kondwani Nankhumwa said, apart from discussing the budget, Parliament would also handle five bills that were discussed during the mid-term budget meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The five bills are the Constitutional Amendment Bill, the Public Audit Bill, the Political Parties Bill, the Pesticides Bill and the Disposal of Assets and Public Procurement Bill.<\/p>\n<p>Nankhumwa further said Parliament had not received new bills from government ministries.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe is expected to deliver the 2017\/2018 Budget Statement on Friday, May 19, 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika Friday opens the 2017-2018 Budget meeting at 10am at the Parliament Building.
