Eric Chapola and Teri Amaro emerged champions of the Toyota Golf Tournament in men\u2019s and ladies categories, respectively, at Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The two emerged the best out of 76 golfers, including 10 female participants.<\/p>\n
During prize presentation, Toyota Malawi Managing Director, John Connell, said the tournament marked the opening of a modernised Chip-Inn, which the company has built at the centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was in the year 2002 that Toyota Malawi first responded to the club\u2019s need for the construction of a half-way facility where golfers could recharge after a 9\/18 hole round, hence the birth of the Chip-Inn. Back then, it was a good facility and it served its purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, over time the need to upgrade it arose, and rightfully so. Again, we answered that call with the thought of you our partners in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chapola hailed the company for the tournament and attributed his success to work hard.<\/p>\n
\u201cI played against experienced golfers and I never thought I would emerge the champion. I guess luck was on my part,\u201d Chapola said.<\/p>\n
Amaro said winning the championship for the ladies category marked her return to golf after a long absence.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate [the support] of my playmates. It was not easy returning to the course and emerge the champion. I am hopeful that I will maintain the record,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In men\u2019s category, Harry Mkaka emerged the second best whereas Nester Msowoya got third position.<\/p>\n
Fukani Gani won the longest drive on hole number two whereas Mike Khomani claimed the nearest to the pin on hole number 10.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s category, Roza Mbilizi grabbed the second position and the longest drive on hole 13 whereas Margaret Mkwanda won the nearest to the pin on hole number 14.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
