Former light heavyweight challenger, Isaac \u2018Golden Boy\u2019 Chilemba, has made a quick return to training after recovering from an arm injury in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Chilemba retired in the eighth round after breaking his elbow at T-Mobile Arena in the United States during a title fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk last November.<\/p>\n
He was supposed to be out until 2018, but the former World Boxing Council contender is even dreaming of fighting later this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am doing great. I have four more weeks for treatment. Even though I was advised by the doctor to only start boxing training next year, I am feeling great that I begun training two weeks ago,\u201d the Blantyre-born fighter said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, today [last Saturday] I had two rounds sparring just to test my arm. Even though I felt pain here and there, I am happy with how the recovery is going. I am hoping to have at least a fight towards the end of this year. Nothing has been discussed yet as I am still going through physiotherapy treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier, reports suggested that Chilemba was also supposed to undergo a hip surgery in the United States. But the 30-year-old insisted otherwise.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t go to the United States for the treatment rather I decided to do it here in South Africa. I will go to the United States only when I am 100 percent fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking after the loss to Gvozdyk, Chilemba (24-3-2, 10 KOs) told Espn that if it were not for the injury he could have defeated the Ukranian.<\/p>\n
“I am devastated,” Chilemba said. “If I hadn’t hurt my right arm in the third round, it would have been a completely different outcome. I was in an incredible amount of pain from the third round through the rest of the fight”.<\/p>\n
However, the Ukranian insisted otherwise, saying Chilemba had paid the price of underrating him.<\/p>\n
“Left jab, left hook and straight rights to the body really hurt him,” Gvozdyk (12-0, 10 KOs) was quoted as saying. “People don’t think I have a lot of fights, but I had over 250 amateur fights. I just broke him down.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
