Southern \u00a0Region football teams have been dealt a blow as Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has condemned Kamuzu Stadium as unfit for hosting matches.<\/p>\n
The condemnation comes a week before the new season kicks off, thereby throwing off balance teams such as Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers who use the venue for home matches.<\/p>\n
According to a report from Fam, the stadium poses a safety concern.<\/p>\n
Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, confirmed that Karonga Stadium had also failed the test.<\/p>\n
Gunda said the report has been submitted to all stakeholders following a recent inspection of match venues.<\/p>\n
He said the artificial turf of the Blantyre stadium expired hence puts players at risk.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll stakeholders, including the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) were waiting for the final report on the venues to be used next season and we have submitted them,\u201d Gunda said.<\/p>\n
However, Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Henry Mussa, told The Nation <\/em>Newspaper on Tuesday that Kamuzu Stadium can still host games while waiting for an assessment.<\/p>\n Mussa ordered the Malawi National Council of Sports to carry out a fresh assessment on the facility following concerns which some Blantyre teams raised that its closure would increase their operational costs.<\/p>\n \u201cFor now, the stadium can still be used to host matches until such a time that I get a report on the outcome of the assessment,\u201d Mussa told The Nation<\/em>.<\/p>\n Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, was not available for a comment.<\/p>\n Sulom had indicated that Premier Bet Wizards would host Silver Strikers at the Blantyre venue on May 6.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Southern \u00a0Region football teams have been dealt a blow as Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has condemned Kamuzu Stadium as unfit for hosting matches.
