Malawi National Football Team Coach, Ronny Van Geneugden, and his backroom staff have heaped praises on increased competition in the Flames squad.<\/p>\n
The Flames meet Madagascar at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday in the return leg of the African Nations Championship (Chan) first round. Madagascar arrived Wednesday.<\/p>\n
In a post-training interview on Tuesday, the Flames Assistant Coach, Gerald Phiri Senior, said they were impressed with the attitude of the players.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are really encouraged by the response from the players. Everybody, including the new arrivals, are really working hard and fighting for places in the final squad. This is good because they will give us more options ahead of the game,\u201d Phiri explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur aim is to progress to the next round. Although we conceded a late goal, our plan was to contain them in the first leg. But we have an attacking mentality ahead of Saturday\u2019s match.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Flames lost 0-1 in Antananarivo last Saturday and need a two-goal margin win to clinch a second round berth.<\/p>\n
Geneugden has beefed up the squad with Joseph Kamwendo, Isaac Kaliyati, Binwell Katinji, Chisomo Mpachika, Micium Mhone, Ishmael Thindwa and Robin Ngalande.<\/p>\n
However, Kaliyati\u2019s eligibility is subject to the nod from the Confederation of African football (Caf) as the attacker signed a five-year deal with South African side, Cape Town City FC.<\/p>\n
In an interview through an interpreter, Madagascar Coach, Raux Augusta, said they were on a serious mission.<\/p>\n
