{"id":45225,"date":"2017-04-27T08:42:35","date_gmt":"2017-04-27T06:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=45225"},"modified":"2017-04-27T08:42:36","modified_gmt":"2017-04-27T06:42:36","slug":"mdina-open-for-ladies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/04\/27\/mdina-open-for-ladies\/","title":{"rendered":"Mdina Open for ladies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) has re-introduced the ladies section for the Mdina International Chess Championship scheduled for Crest Ilala Lodge in Mzuzu from August 24 to 27.<\/p>\n<p>Chessam Publicity Secretary, Makhosi Nyirenda, confirmed that the sponsor had nodded to the inclusion of the ladies\u2019 category in the championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProgrammes to improve ladies\u2019 chess have been set from the grassroots. For instance, the introduction of chess in schools is the greatest step towards the improvement of ladies chess,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Mpinganjira, the only lady participant in last year\u2019s competition, has since welcomed the ladies\u2019 section.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing the only lady playing at the last Mdina Open was so challenging and fun at the same time. But I could see that having no separate ladies\u2019 category really affected the numbers of ladies,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi\u2019s international, Daisy Nkhoma, said she felt demotivated by the recent exclusion of the ladies\u2019 section.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi\u2019s best female player, Linda Jambo, said she was excited with the revival of the section.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know ladies chess is still developing.
