President Peter Mutharika has said he would not hesitate to remove any minister who fails to respect others in the course of duty.<\/p>\n
Mutharika said he expects Cabinet ministers to respect each other and work on the principle of collective responsibility and confidentiality.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will not tolerate any minister who abuses or act in a manner which does not respect others. Such a minister will be out of the Cabinet in no time. The office demands confidentiality, hard work and integrity,\u201d Mutharika said<\/p>\n
He made the remarks Tuesday in Lilongwe at a swearing-in ceremony of the newly-appointed Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development Cecilia Chazama.<\/p>\n
Chazama was appointed on April 6 to replace Mulanje West MP Patricia Kaliati who served in the ministerial position less than a year since the establishment of the ministry.<\/p>\n
Mutharika also reiterated the need for public office bearers to desist from corruption, warning that the long arm of the law would take its course where one is found to be in conflict with it.<\/p>\n
He has also challenged Chazama to work hard in the eradication of harmful cultural practices that continue to contribute to the spread of HIV and Aids.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose cultural practices that are harmful and slow down development will take us nowhere. The sooner we do away with them, the better for our nation. Cultural practices such as hlazi, kujura nthowa, kulowa <\/em>or kupita kufa, bulangete la mfumu <\/em>must be discontinued if we are going to win the battle against HIV and Aids in this country,\u201d he said<\/p>\n Mutharika said he hopes that through civic education most challenges that the nation is grappling with, such as killings of people with albinism, mob justice and tax evasion would be reduced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" President Peter Mutharika has said he would not hesitate to remove any minister who fails to respect others in the course of duty.
