Blantyre-based gospel group Neligo Women\u2019s Choir said on Sunday that they will continue to take up a leading role in promoting education for a girl child and women in the country.<\/p>\n
The group on Sunday launched their Ndioloke <\/em>DVD at Robin\u2019s Park in Blantyre.<\/p>\n \u201cApart from ministering the word of God through music, as a group we have taken up the initiative of promoting education for the girl child and women. This is why during our performances we normally put on school uniforms just to tell the girl child out there the beauty of being educated,\u201d said the group\u2019s lead singer Pastor Theresa Gunde.<\/p>\n Gunde said through gospel music they would want to help the girl child and women to attain education.<\/p>\n \u201cWe appeal to women out there to go to school so as to learn how to read and write. It is not too late. You can only read the Bible when you know how to read,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Pastor Gunde said with the little resources they will continue to speak about education adding that as musicians they have a duty to disseminate information on different issues.<\/p>\n Neligo as a women gospel group also works with young people and this has seen them embracing different genres in their music.<\/p>\n \u201cAs women we will try as much as possible to create music that reaches out to everyone. We want the youth to be part of our music, our music is not only targeted to women and the old generation but everyone,\u201d Gunde said.<\/p>\n The group has always performed with energy during their live performances and they did the same during the launch on Sunday.<\/p>\n Despite having a long list of curtainraisers, Neligo Women\u2019s Choir offered more songs on the day.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course people have been complaining that gospel concerts are losing shape because of long line-ups which gives main performers little time. But for us we managed to perform close to seven songs and our plan was to dish out 10 songs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The lead singer described the launch as a success and hailed people for their support.<\/p>\n \u201cWe thank God for being there and the launch was a success. We just want to call upon people to support us by buying the DVD which has songs of hope,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n From Blantyre, Pastor Gunde said they would want to move to other areas and launch the DVD but they do not have enough resources.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will see how things work out but for now we do not have the resources. As a women group we raise funds on our own. We do not have any sponsors but we would love to take the launch to other areas as soon as yesterday,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Some of the songs in the DVD include \u2018Suzapeza Mtendere,\u2019 \u2018Tikuthokoza,\u2019 \u2018 Usachotse Moyo,\u2019 \u2018Ndampeza Yesu,\u2019 and Ambuye Amandikonda.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cGod has been on our side because we sold more copies with our debut album Chikondi Chanu <\/em>and the same has happened with the second album Ndioloke,\u201d <\/em>Gunde said.<\/p>\n Other songs the group performed from their collection include \u2018Sawona Waku Yeliko,\u2019 and \u2018Go Konko.\u2019<\/p>\n The launch was spiced up by performances from among others Lloyd Phiri, who performed at the show after a long break, Ndirande Anglican Voices, Steve Wazisomo Muliya, Favoured Martha, Brenda Kadammanja and The Shepherds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Blantyre-based gospel group Neligo Women\u2019s Choir said on Sunday that they will continue to take up a leading role in promoting education for a girl child and women in the country.
