Football Association of Malawi (Fam) on Friday hosted sports writers to a day-long general football workshop at Chiwembe in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
The workshop, which Sports Writers Association (Swam) facilitated, attracted 43 scribes from all regions.<\/p>\n
Fam Transfer Matching System Manager, Casper Jangale, said the course was aimed at enlightening the reporters on the role of the association, Club Licensing System, the Laws of the Game and Sports Reporting versus Defamation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf reporters do not have knowledge of what they are reporting on, it clearly means that they will also mislead their readers, viewers and listeners,\u201d Jangale explained in an interview.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe workshop was also a good platform to explain to them the revised Laws of the Game. We, therefore, expect them to report with a sense of educating the audience without sparking controversy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Swam President, Peter Kanjere, commended Fam for hosting the workshop for the first time and urged the sports media to follow ethics of their profession.<\/p>\n
\u201cFam always organises workshops to drill football stakeholders such as referees and coaches others, but reporters were not given such a chance. This prompted us to engage them for the training so as to bridge the knowledge gap. We, therefore, would like to commend Fam for the training which has come at the right time before the kick-off of the 2017 season,\u201d Kanjere said.<\/p>\n
During the workshop, Jangale drilled the reporters on club licensing, with Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, making a presentation on the association\u2019s role in football development.<\/p>\n
The association\u2019s Refereeing Development Officer, Maxwell Mtonga, tackled the revised Laws of the Game with lawyer Wanangwa Kalua making a presentation on Sports Reporting versus Defamation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
