The organisers of the Nyasa Music Awards have been commended for promoting the music industry by setting up awards.<\/p>\n
The inaugural awards will be held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on May 5.<\/p>\n
Random interviews with fans and artists during an interaction night held at Dusk Till Dawn in Blantyre on Friday saw them welcoming the awards.<\/p>\n
\u201cChallenges will always be there and even the Grammy Awards have challenges but what matters is to accept criticism and improve. What I love is that they have started because it\u2019s difficult to start things,\u201d said a fan Michael Phiri.<\/p>\n
Jessica Mkandawire also hailed the organisers for hosting an interaction night which she said gave fans an opportunity to interact with some of the nominees.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course not all nominees came; I would have loved if we had a good number of the nominees present. But all the same it was a good outing. The country needs more awards to decorate its artists,\u201d Mkandawire said.<\/p>\n
One of the nominees, Dan Lu, who was present, thanked the organisers for creating the awards but also the interaction night.<\/p>\n
\u201cBig up to them for the interaction night because it has given us an opportunity to network with our fans. We rarely have such platforms where you get feedback on your music and performances,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dan Lu also said awards are very important in that they motivate artists to do more.<\/p>\n
The musician, however, said there have been awards which have come up in the past years but have died a natural death and was hopeful that Nyasa Music Awards would be sustainable.<\/p>\n
George Sims, owner of Dusk Till Dawn, described the Nyasa Music Awards as important for the growth of music in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cApart from the team organising the Nyasa Music Awards being my friends, Dusk Till Dawn decided to offer its support because the awards are for a good cause. If the creative industry or music industry has to grow then awards are good because they motivate artists,\u201d Sims said.<\/p>\n
During the interaction night, the organisers opened up to the fans on the awards and also outlined their plans.<\/p>\n
Voting for the awards has opened for TNM subscribers only and that the code for Airtel subscribers would be made available soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cTNM Subscribers can now vote by sending VOTE, name of artist, category to 3039. Please don\u2019t send the name of the artist only but it should be complete with the category,\u201d said Mathambo Lowole, a member of the organising team.<\/p>\n
He indicated that people can vote more than once and that closure is on the eve of the awards.<\/p>\n
Recently Nyasa Music Awards signed a partnership with Times Group which will see them having exclusive rights to the main event.<\/p>\n
The organisers have also partnered Entertainers Promotions.<\/p>\n
The organisers have since said they are serious with the awards and making progress despite facing heavy criticism on the categories.<\/p>\n
Some quarters have, among others, criticised the organisers on the categories saying they have a list of the same faces.<\/p>\n
But the organisers have said they did not come up with the names but rather a team comprising the media came up with the list.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole process was transparent; we did not make the names. People will always complain but we assure them of the best,\u201d Lowole said.<\/p>\n
Some of the categories in the awards include Best Video, Best Single, Best Live Act, Best Club DJ, Best Radio DJ, Best Afro Pop, Best Female Artist and Best Producer.<\/p>\n
Among others, on Best Video, the list of nominees are Tay Grin\u2019s \u2018Chipapa\u2019 which features Nigeria\u2019s 2Baba, Zani Challe\u2019s \u2018Single Tonight\u2019 featuring Nigeria\u2019s Pato Rankin, Malinga Mafia\u2019s Levels featuring Various and Dan Lu\u2019s \u2018Sweet Banana\u2019 featuring Nigeria\u2019s Kcee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
