Two suspects in the Chifundo Charity Shield fake tickets case Wednesday appeared before the Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate, Benjamin Chulu.<\/p>\n
Peter Minofu and his co-accused, Weston Garnet, who were arrested at Civo Stadium during the game on Saturday, pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery and altering documents.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand the charge, but it is not me who did it. It was a friend who said that he got it from his relative from Football Association of Malawi (Fam),\u201d Minofu claimed.<\/p>\n
In his plea, Garnet said someone gave him the tickets.<\/p>\n
Both suspects, who were allegedly found in possession of three booklets of tickets and K14, 300, have since been remanded at Maula Prison in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
State prosecutor, Solomon Mchawi, has since appealed for 10 days to pave way for further investigations on the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe State is yet to conclude investigations. Justice demands that offences should be sufficiently investigated. It is in this pirit that the State prays for 10 days to conclude its investigations,\u201d Mchawi said.<\/p>\n
During the game, eventual winners, Nyasa Big Bullets defeated Kamuzu Barracks 3-1 to defend the cup.<\/p>\n
During last year\u2019s edition of the Charity Shield, Fam and Central Region Football Association officials were also implicated in a similar ticket scam.<\/p>\n
