Edgar Kachere showed commitment as a member of the Edgar ndi Davis Band when he availed himself for a performance at Premier Lodge in Blantyre on Easter Sunday having arrived the same day from China.<\/p>\n
Kachere was expected to come earlier from his China trip but his programme changed.<\/p>\n
The musician, who is also a lawyer jetted into the country at 4pm through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe and immediately drove to Blantyre for a show.<\/p>\n
It was surely risky for Kachere, who would have chosen to take a rest due to a long flight but for the love of the band, he decided to make himself available despite turning up late.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to apologise to the audience for Edgar Kachere\u2019s late showing but let me say it here that he was in China and only landed at 4pm.<\/p>\n
We would like to thank Edgar because we almost gave up but he is here,\u201d said his longtime friend Davis Njobvu.<\/p>\n
Kachere came in after Njobvu and other members had performed for sometime but his presence added power to the live act.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Davis said, I was in China, I thought I would be in on time but the programme changed. However, I made it a point to be here because I am what I am because of the band . It\u2019s unfortunate I came late and I apologise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The show was supposed to start in the afternoon but it delayed and started at night, disappointing some of the fans.<\/p>\n
The performances also started on a low note before things picked up.<\/p>\n
As part of the warm-ups Allan Jogi offered some of his songs followed by James Kuchilala better known as Malala, who dished out his songs including the latest songs, \u2018Mzanga Bulaki\u2019.<\/p>\n
In the absence of other members for the group, among them, Layison Njati, who plays the lead guitar, Malala stepped in to do the job while Jogi played backing vocals, covering up for Kachere and Chimwemwe Maloya.<\/p>\n
Jogi is such a good talent when it comes to vocals and has backed several gospel artists.<\/p>\n
He did well although one would note that he did not have enough rehearsals to master the songs.<\/p>\n
It was the same with Malala, who is an amazing talent and showed great skills on the lead guitar, but it would have been perfect if he had done enough rehearsals with the band.<\/p>\n
Bassist Felix Jere stood out from the other members but, there were still some signs of rust in the band.<\/p>\n
Njobvu was sharp both on vocals and guitar and strengthened this with his energetic dancing.<\/p>\n
Before Edgar ndi Davis Band\u2019s showdown, the audience enjoyed veteran Giddes Chalamanda\u2019s vibes from \u2018Buffalo Soldier\u2019 to \u2018Liny\u2019 to \u2018Che Meli\u2019and closed his chapter with \u2018Azimayi A Malawi\u2019.<\/p>\n
At 87, Agide as the old-timer is fondly called, showed that he is still strong as he delivered a non-stop performance forcing the audience to shower some money on him.<\/p>\n
\u201cGod has been faithful to me and as long as I am alive, I will continue to sing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The past years have seen Agide singing all his songs with energy and the lyrics coming out brightly but old age is catching up on him and lately, he is finding it difficult to do high pitched tracks.<\/p>\n
One of the fans at the show heaped praise on Edgar ndi Davis for taking care of the veteran musician saying that there are some people in the society who mistreat old people.<\/p>\n
Njobvu said they will continue to look after Agide, who he described as a friend, father and grandfather.<\/p>\n
Njobvu and Kachere, who performed several songs from their albums including \u2018Energy Saver\u2019 and \u2018Dzubwera Mochedwa, said the band was intact and that they were in the studio working on a new album.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in the studio working on a new album so people should just watch the space. Again, Agide will also be dropping his new album,\u201d said the duo.<\/p>\n
