{"id":44529,"date":"2017-04-17T07:55:31","date_gmt":"2017-04-17T05:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=44529"},"modified":"2017-04-17T07:55:32","modified_gmt":"2017-04-17T05:55:32","slug":"rains-disrupt-sound-and-light-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/04\/17\/rains-disrupt-sound-and-light-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"Rains disrupt Sound and Light concert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A heavy downpour in Blantyre on Saturday affected the highly publicised Sound and Light Mega Gospel concert organised by Entertainers Promotions at BAT Ground.<\/p>\n<p>Only three artists managed to perform at the concert, which had a strong lineup before the rains started and did not stop until late.<\/p>\n<p>Skeffa Chimoto, nicknamed the Jamming Machine for his energetic live acts, was the only musician on the menu who performed.<\/p>\n<p>The others were Lilongwe-based Peter Uyu Mlangeni and Marvellous Deeds, who were not on the list but made themselves available.<\/p>\n<p>As late as 4pm some of the artists such as Thocco Katimba and Ndirande Anglican Voices\u2019 lead singer Dennis Kalimbe were on stage waiting for the rains to stop.<\/p>\n<p>Dressed impressively, Katimba, who is slowly gaining ground with his latest song \u2018Bakha\u2019, could only say that \u201crains had stopped what could have been a good show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some fans, who had taken shelter underneath the stage but had already soaked, wanted the artists to be performing despite the rains but this could not work.<\/p>\n<p>It was late when the rains stopped and the concert did not continue.<\/p>\n<p>Entertainers Promotions admitted they invested a lot into the concert which was also part of unveiling the state-of-the-art stage set to be used during the Reggae By Foot show on April 29 in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked very hard on this concert and we invested a lot but with the rains we could not continue. We stayed on and wanted it to continue but things didn\u2019t work out,\u201d said Entertainers Promotions Director Tonderai Banda.<\/p>\n<p>Banda said with the support they received, they would look into rescheduling the concert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are disappointed the show did not continue but we are happy we managed to unveil the stage and everything including sound was perfect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Banda said they were now looking forward to the Reggae By Foot show to be headlined by South Africa\u2019s artists Thuthukani Cele and Sister Phumi at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers mounted the stage on Friday ahead of the concert on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Random interviews with some of the artists who were billed to perform said they were disappointed but hailed Entertainers Promotions for organising the concert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, the show has failed but you cannot blame Entertainers Promotions. They did everything right but it\u2019s just that we had the rains,\u201d said Great Angels Choir member William Zonda.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if they refunded the money to the people, Banda said with the situation many left on their own and that no one complained.<\/p>\n<p>Other artists who were billed to perform include Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Billy Kaunda, Gwamba, Favoured Martha and Limbani Simenti.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A heavy downpour in Blantyre on Saturday affected the highly publicised Sound and Light Mega Gospel concert organised by Entertainers Promotions at BAT Ground.
