Surestream started training the under 10, 12, 14, 16, 17 and the 20.

One could actually see that after three years, players had a similar pattern of play of one-touch football.

I believe that Surestream gave us the perfect example of how a particular football philosophy must be imposed: from down then upwards.

But for this wise man from the west to come here and lecture us about imparting a playing philosophy on these old tired legs in his two-year stint with Fam is sheer fantasy.

I have all the reason to doubt the experience of the 48-year-old coach to properly handle the senior national team considering that he has never coached any national team despite coaching several clubs in Europe.

It is unheard of to compare the pressure of handling the national team to that of a football club. A national team is a bit complicated unlike a football club.

This coupled with the fact that he has never won silverware makes some of us doubt if he is the one to transform Malawi football.

The nation is also yet to be told how he left Cyprus to start looking for a job in an impoverished country like Malawi.

Geneugden may wish to know that our wounds are still festering when we recount the number of talentless and hopeless expatriate coaches who came here with sweet tongues but ended up messing up our game.

This is a horde of talentless and lopsided coaches that never gave us glory until Kinnah Phiri, our own tactician, gave us solace by taking the Flames to the Africa Nations Cup final after 26 years in the doldrums.

We anticipate that this man, whose name I cannot even properly pronounce, to beat the record set by Kinnah to earn our respect.

We are not here to admire the so-called football philosophy.

The dust is refusing to settle on the circumstances that led to Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) employment of expatriate Coach, Ronny van Geneugden.
