Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has called on all district football committees to send financial reports for the Presidential Cup.<\/p>\n
Fam Competitions Manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, made the call on Sunday when the association engaged Northern Region-based district committees on the cup.<\/p>\n
For the past years, Zakazaka said, district committees have been lacking accountability when running the cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey [district football commi t tees ] have to produce a document\u2014a well detailed report on how they have been utilising the funds released to them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe [Fam] release the funds to the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA), which in turn, releases the funds to district committees. The treasurers from the committees sign different cheques and withdraw money\u2026 but there are no traces of how those funds are utilised.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his remarks, NRFA Vice-Chairperson, Felix Msiska, said submission of reports would ease abuse of funds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will help in installing the lost trust in those responsible for running the cup. There are cases where a payment could be made without receipts being given, showing that funds have been abused,\u201d Msika said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAuditors could come, but in the end, there were finding nothing to work on. Procedures were not followed and everything was a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n
