Some residents in areas of Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa have said over two months have passed since they last received relief items.<\/p>\n
The concerned people\u2019s houses were destroyed by rains and winds in January.<\/p>\n
A resident of Mtayamanja Village, Workstone Mponda, said the area hardly sees organisations coming to their rescue in times of need.<\/p>\n
He added that they are also threatenned with hunger this year after heavy rains and armyworms destroyed their crops.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe live like animals in the bush. Our road network is very poor, that\u2019s why organisations do not often come here with relief food,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mponda recounted times when patients would be ferried on locally-made stretchers as no ambulance can make its way to the area.<\/p>\n
Another resident, Stephano Matiasi, of Group village Headman Jassi, said he lost everything except his small bag.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was around 8pm when the rains started. We were all in our houses when water forced through my house and swept away my property,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, on Saturday, an organisation called Eagles Relief and Development Programme International relieved the villages of Jassi, Nyasa, Goliati, Daniel, Mashalubu, Mose and Mtayamanja with a cash transfer initiative.<\/p>\n
The 140 affected families each received K70,000 to rebuild.<\/p>\n
The organisation\u2019s Programmes Manager Wilford Kamuona also decried the poor roads in the area which prevented them from coming in time with the initiative.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are assured of a positive change in the lives of these people. Listening to their stories you would be shocked with the experiences they went through,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the community members are still asking for more help as they brace for another cycle of hunger this year due to the rains and armyworms which destroyed their crops.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
