Some coaches have urged Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and the government to give the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, new mentor, Ronny van Geneugden, enough support if he is to flourish.<\/p>\n
Former Silver Strikers and Civo United coach, Thom Mkolongo and ex- Nyasa Big Bullets trainer, Meke Mwase, said support was paramount if the Belgian is to succeed.<\/p>\n
Mkolongo said some coaches might have brilliant ideas but they are frustrated by lack of support.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us give him a chance to prove that he deserves the job. For instance, if a coach wants to monitor players, the association should provide support,\u201d Mkolongo said.<\/p>\n
Experience has shown that national team coaches lack support when they want to monitor players, especially the foreign-based.<\/p>\n
Mwase concurred with Mkolongo and also welcomed the Flames\u2019 new mentor.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe needs to be given support for him to show his quality. It is not easy to get what we want as coaches but, at least, when we get support we do better,\u201d the former Swaziland\u2019s Mbabane Highlanders coach said.<\/p>\n
Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, on Saturday said the new coach was willing to work with meagre resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat also impressed us was his willingness to work with meagre resources. Not every coach who applied was willing to accept such a range of a salary. He was the right kind of a person who was willing to come and adapt,\u201d Nyamilandu told journalists in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
The Belgian signed a two-year deal in charge of the Flames, whose fans are starved of success.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Blantyre after his unveiling, Geneugden said he wanted to create a football style for the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot do this alone, but together we need to create chemistry between the players on the pitch and the fans watching,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
