Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is targeting K15 million in gate proceeds from the second edition of the Chifundo Charity Shield slated for April 15 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
The second edition involves TNM Super League champions, Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and Presidential Cup holders, Nyasa Big Bullets.<\/p>\n
Fam Commercial Director, Limbani Matola, said this year\u2019s proceeds will go towards Kachere Rehabilitation Centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year, there were a lot of overhead costs, but this time around, clubs and ground owners will not get their share. They will be given a small token to cater for things such as water and the cleaning of the stadium,\u201d Matola was quoted as saying on Fam official website.<\/p>\n
In the first edition held at Civo Stadium, involving Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers, K11 million was realised and part of it was used to purchase 10 trolleys for Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
The charity shield is a curtain-raiser for the new football season which is expected to start next month.<\/p>\n
Bullets won the inaugural edition after beating Wanderers 2-0 with goals from Chiukepo Msowoya and Muhammad Sulumba.<\/p>\n
The first edition was also marred by controversies as fake tickets were spotted at the stadium. A preliminary police report implicated some Fam and Central Region Football Association officials.<\/p>\n
Fam set up a commission of inquiry but the results are not yet out. Domestic stadiums are prone to gate revenue fraud.<\/p>\n
