Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) has ironed out differences that emerged between Chiradzulu District councillors and District Commissioner Memory Kaleso.<\/p>\n
MALGA held a meeting with the concerned parties at Chiradzulu District Council offices on Wednesday. The meeting followed the sealing of Kaleso\u2019s office by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councillors who accused her of refusing to give them allowances and other resources that would enable them attend political party rallies.<\/p>\n
The councillors closed the office of Kaleso and offices of council employees last Thursday.<\/p>\n
Disagreements between Kaleso and the councillors prompted MALGA to hold the meeting which Blantyre City Mayor, Wild Ndipo, who is also MALGA chairperson, described as \u201cfruitful\u201d.<\/p>\n
The councillors wanted Kaleso out of the office but Ndipo said on Wednesday that the differences have been ironed out, adding that the concerned parties have resolved to work together.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe meeting was interactive, fruitful and successful. It only took us about an hour to come to an amicable conclusion. The main issue was that both parties did not know how far they could go with their jurisdictions. So, we showed them their terms of reference and, in the end, we managed to resolve the differences and I can confirm that they are all in good terms. Offices were opened on the same day,\u201d Ndipo said.<\/p>\n
The councillor\u2019s conduct did not impress some quarters of society, with the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace leading the list of those who condemned the councillors.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Police in Chiradzulu have said they are investigating the matter after receiving a complaint.<\/p>\n
Chiradzulu Police Station spokesperson, Victoria Chirwa, confirmed that they have opened a case of conduct likely to cause breach of peace against the concerned councillors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
