The Public Affairs Committee (Pac) Thursday attacked the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration for lacking vision to steer the country to prosperity in the three years President Peter Mutharika has been in power.<\/p>\n
The quasi-religious grouping said the Mutharika government has performed dismally.<\/p>\n
Members of Pac Executive Committee, Board of Trustees and representatives of mother bodies said this yesterday in Blantyre at a press briefing where they presented a statement titled \u201cunfulfilled promises and deep-rooted corruption\u201d.<\/p>\n
Making the statement, Pac Chairperson, Reverend Felix Chingota, said Malawi needs a new political architect to turn things around.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe resolved to take a concrete position that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration has failed to perform, and that its leadership has demonstrated indecisiveness on critical matters. We take this stand in line with our mandate to respond to the negative political and economic trends facing our country at the moment,\u201d said Chingota who co-signed the statement with Pac Publicity Secretary, Father Peter Mulomole.<\/p>\n
Chingota said the Mutharika administration has failed to tackle increasing cases of corruption and economic challenges, a development he described as a manifestation of poor leadership.<\/p>\n
In not less than five times, Chingota used the term \u201cintegrity\u201d as crucial to achieving prosperity. He further questioned the DPP administration\u2019s integrity in running state affairs.<\/p>\n
He quoted the DPP\u2019s manifesto of February 2014, page six which reads: \u201cWe in the DPP believe that if a government does not have integrity, it has no right to govern.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked to clarify the point in relation to DPP\u2019s conduct in governance, Chingota said: \u201cThat is for people to see if their government has integrity and a right to govern as enshrined in its manifesto. People voted for DPP into government after reading its manifesto.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pac also noted that the DPP administration has been greatly characterised by corrupt practices, financial indiscipline and selective justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe recent Maizegate saga provides a strong basis to radically redefine our future noting that all attempts to reverse negative trends have failed,\u201d Chingota said<\/p>\n
Pac also said that that the DPP administration continues to embark on selective justice in the pursuit of Cashgate cases, adding that the timing of raiding premises of Times Group and Institute of Public Opinion and Research by the Malawi Revenue Authority may be perceived as state harassment.<\/p>\n
On this point, Chingota said time has come to peacefully and decisively act in favour of transformative leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mediocrity we experience today will not improve the lives of Malawians and the nation needs to wake up to the call.<\/p>\n
Moving forward, Pac said it will hold an all-inclusive conference in May as a mechanism for guidance to concretise desired political direction.<\/p>\n
Pac made the statement to the public after its failed meeting with Mutharika scheduled for yesterday but was postponed to April 27 due to unknown reasons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
