{"id":43994,"date":"2017-04-07T07:40:33","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T05:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=43994"},"modified":"2017-04-07T07:40:33","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T05:40:33","slug":"flames-move-3-steps-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/04\/07\/flames-move-3-steps-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Flames move 3 steps up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the absence of competitive matches for Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, keep doing better on the Fifa-Coca-Cola world ranking.<\/p>\n<p>The Flames have moved three steps up on the ranking for March.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ranking, which world football governing body, Fifa, released through its website yesterday, the Flames have moved from position 103 to 100.<\/p>\n<p>On the ranking for February, Malawi dropped from 103 to 102.<\/p>\n<p>The rise on the table is timely as the Flames are preparing for the 2017 African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament qualifiers with an away game against Madagascar slated for April 22.<\/p>\n<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Technical Director, John Kaputa, has described the rise as a motivation to the Flames.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is great news to the team as we are preparing for the forthcoming competitions. It will boost the team\u2019s morale. It is an indicator that we can do better if we continue working hard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Flames played a competitive match last year when they beat Swaziland 1-0 in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The new ranking has also seen Argentina dropping to second position whereas Brazil have moved up to the top of the table.<\/p>\n<p>African champions, Cameroon have dropped by a single step to 33.
