{"id":43992,"date":"2017-04-07T07:35:08","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T05:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=43992"},"modified":"2017-04-07T07:35:08","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T05:35:08","slug":"boxers-urged-to-undergo-head-scans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/04\/07\/boxers-urged-to-undergo-head-scans\/","title":{"rendered":"Boxers urged to undergo head scans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) has advised boxers to undergo medical check-up, including head-scans after every six months.<\/p>\n<p>The board\u2019s President, Lonzoe Zimba, made the call following Kudakwache Banda\u2019s first-round technical knockout defeat to Simon Tcheta on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Zimba said they would be demanding medical reports every six months to ensure the safety of boxers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe normally demand medical reports prior to fights. We look for hepatitis B and HIV\/Aids results. But now we will also concentrate on head scans. We don\u2019t want to lose any life. This is why we have advised Kudakwache to undergo a medical check-up and have his head scanned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>It was a third successive defeat for Kudakwache after his recent 12-bout winning streak ended.<\/p>\n<p>Kudakwache could not be reached yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>New Dawn Boxing Promotions Managing Director, Mike Chimaliza, who is well-known for promoting Kudakwache, said the boxer was certified fit by neurologist Dr Zumazuma before Sunday\u2019s fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was managing him, I asked him about rumours to do with a problem on his chin. He dismissed such rumours.
