The Global Apprenticeship Network (GAN) has called on Malawi to deploy \u201csystematic approaches\u201d in its attempt to deal with high unemployment rate, especially among the youth.<\/p>\n
GAN Global Executive Director, Shea Gopaul, made the call in Blantyre on Friday at the launch of the GAN National Programme for Malawi.<\/p>\n
The forum is created to help combat youth unemployment across the globe and Malawi becomes the first country on the continent to roll it.<\/p>\n
While commending Malawi for the bold step taken, Gopaul said more needs to be done in narrowing levels of unemployment, especially among the youth.<\/p>\n
She said the Malawi economy, like most other developing economies, is hard hit by high levels of unemployment which are impinging strides to development and further economic growth.<\/p>\n
Gopaul said Malawi needs to realign her education system with the job market requirements and that the economic development agenda should auger with the growing job market demand.<\/p>\n
She further called on the public and private sectors to engage in creating a conduciveenvironment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Malawi, we have many people working in the informal sector. The more networks we set up, the more we will address the issue of unemployment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Several key players from the private and public sectors made commitments at the launch of the network in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Minister of Labour, Youth and Manpower Development and Sports, Henry Mussa, said Capital Hill is putting in place measures to address youth unemployment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis partnership is more into fighting or combating the youth unemployment through skills development for increased productivity. This is a revolution that needs to be embraced by all of us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
