There was no joy for six Malawian boxers who were involved in either title or non-title fights in Namibia and South Africa over the weekend.<\/p>\n
At the height of the defeats was Crispin Moliyati, who retired in the seventh round of a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bout against Namibian, Paulus \u2018Hitman\u2019 Moses, in Windhoek on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Moliyati was due to face another Namibian, Jeremiah Nakathila, in an eight-round International Super Lightweight contest but the Malawian was elevated to the WBO-Africa Lightweight title fight against Moses after a boxer from DR Congo [name withheld] reportedly failed a medical.<\/p>\n
Despite receiving pledges from Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board President Lonzoe Zimba, No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions Managing Director Craig Rousseau and Meka Boxing Promotions Managing Director Gome Mwandira, Moliyati was sent to the canvas in the seventh round before retiring.<\/p>\n
Following the win, Moses improved his record to 39 wins and three defeats whereas Moliyati dropped to 19 wins, five defeats and four draws.<\/p>\n
Another Malawian Charles Misanjo also lost on points to another Namibian, Ebenestus Kaangundue, in an international welterweight six-round contest whereas Chikondi Makawa also lost in similar fashion to Mike Shonena of Namibia.<\/p>\n
Another Malawian, Limbani Masamba, also lost on points to Namibian Emmanuel Mungandjela.<\/p>\n
Rousseau said despite the defeats, he was still encouraged by the performance of the Malawian boxers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the fight goes to the wire, it shows that our boxers have improved. Most of those Namibian boxers have terrific records. We can only win in Namibia through knockouts because, on most occasions, the judges find it hard to declare foreign opponents winners on points,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In South Africa, Malawians Ernest Msoliza and Bright Mdoka, who are trying to establish their mark in Cape Town, lost on their debut on Friday night.<\/p>\n
Mdoka lost to Marcel Botha of South Africa in an international middleweight contest whereas Msoliza also lost on points in an international junior welterweight bout against South African, Brandon Naude.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
