Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Goodall Gondwe, will from next Monday start holding public consultations with stakeholders for their input into the 2017\/18 budget framework.<\/p>\n
Key stakeholders the minister intends to engage include the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), the Economics Association of Malawi (Ecama) and the Malawi Economic Justice Network (Mejn).<\/p>\n
The minister will also solicit views from members of the clergy, the academia and other non-governmental organisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aim of the consultations is to solicit views, contributions and input from stakeholders in Malawi on the 2017- 18 budget,\u201d indicates a statement issued by Secretary to the Treasury, Ben Botolo.<\/p>\n
Expectations are high among key stakeholders but they chose to keep their views close to their chest until all submissions are made to the minister.<\/p>\n
On Monday, the team from Treasury, to be led by Gondwe, will meet members from MCCCI, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi, the Indigenous Business Association of Malawi as well as manufacturing firms in Blantyre, among other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
A similar meeting is slated for Thursday next week in Lilongwe where the minister will solicit views from Ecama, Mejn, the Civil Society Agriculture Network and members of the academia from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources.<\/p>\n
Gondwe will then wind up the first phase of the meetings in Mzuzu where he is expected to get input from the CCAP\u2019s Livingstonia Synod and Mzuzu University, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
