The FMB Under-20 Junior Football League will extend to three districts, making 12 in total.<\/p>\n
The extension of the league follows a promotion which the sponsor, FMB, has launched.<\/p>\n
FMB and National Youth Football Association (NYFA) will run a promotion to allow six selected zones to battle it out through votes.<\/p>\n
The district with the most votes will be incorporated into the league.<\/p>\n
In the Southern Region, Liwonde [Machinga] and Mulanje will battle for a single slot whereas the Central Region has Kasungu, Salima, Mponela [Dowa] and Dwangwa [Nkhotakota].<\/p>\n
FMB Marketing Manager, Widdy Nsona, speaking during a press briefing at the bank\u2019s headquarters in Blantyre yesterday, said they have agreed with NYFA to extend the league to new districts where the bank has structures. Each region is entitled to a new team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a special year because we are allowing everyone to have a say when it comes to the district that should be included in the league. Everyone is entitled to a single vote and it does not matter where you are, you can vote for the district of your choice. The campaign will have a grand draw and we will splash cash prizes, T\/ shirts and airtime, among others. He said they were running the promotion alongside their re-launched First Mobile, which allows various transactions even for non-account holders.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, hailed FMB for the support, saying the junior league was helping to groom footballers.<\/p>\n
NYFA Executive Member, Wasauka Nyirenda, said it was their wish for the league to be spread to all districts.<\/p>\n
Currently, the league is played in Blantyre, Mangochi, Zomba, Mchinji, Dedza, Lilongwe, NkhataBay, Karonga and Mzuzu.<\/p>\n
