President Peter Mutharika\u2019s aversion to criticism is bad not only for him but for this country as well.<\/p>\n
It is not the first time that the President has gone to town castigating people who point at the flaws of his leadership. If it is not the media, then he is on the neck of opposition parties. In Mangochi on Saturday, the President decided to hit at some imaginary foes who he called \u201cZomba experts\u201d.<\/p>\n
Just like any other citizen, the president is allowed to express his displeasure on certain matters. But when the expressions are full of utter disdain, then as citizens we should begin to get worried.<\/p>\n
As President, Mutharika must set himself apart and avoid the path taken by his predecessors who often stoop so low to turn development functions into podiums of political ranting. What Mutharika must know is that as long as he remains president of this country, he will always be a subject of criticism. It would be up to him to take the criticism positively and built on them or choose, as he has done now, to get angry at the slightest provocation.<\/p>\n
Critics should not be perceived as enemies who are bent on destroying or discrediting the President. Actually, what the critics do is simply to remind the president areas that need urgent improvement in this country.<\/p>\n
Mutharika might have boasted of popularity depending on the crowd that attended or attends his rallies. But the truth remains that there is a wave of discontentment with the way this country is being run. Malawians are unhappy and life is difficult, especially with rising cost of living and lack of basic necessities.<\/p>\n
Our generous advice to the President is that he must learn to accept criticism and use it to rebuild his otherwise dented reputation.<\/p>\n
