International Hockey Federation (IHF) has recognised the potential of Malawi Hockey National Team Coach, Geoffrey Biya, by inviting him to a high performance coaching course in Malaysia next month.<\/p>\n
However, there is a challenge standing in Biya\u2019s way to the Asian nation for the four-day course, which gets underway on April 30.<\/p>\n
To fly to Malaysia for the course, Biya needs K2.5 million yet Hockey Association of Malawi is broke.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis comes barely [a month] after the brilliant performance [of the national team] in Tanzania. I need well-wishers to [help me] raise the money. I need your support,\u201d said the coach who led Malawi to a silver medal finish at the President\u2019s Cup held in Arusha recently.<\/p>\n
IHF, through its Hockey Academy, will host the course on the sidelines of Sultan Azlan Cup in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
In an invitation letter to Biya, the academy\u2019s Manager, Andre Oliviera, said the course will take place in Ipoh Town.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have been selected to attend this course as you are considered an expert in hockey coaching. The aim of the high performance coaching course is to provide quality learning and assessment opportunity,\u201d Oliviera stated.<\/p>\n
He said the aim of the course was to develop \u201ca global hockey workforce that enables the IHF Hockey Academy to support all member national associations with the very best level of development and elite coaching support.\u201d<\/p>\n
To qualify for the coaching badge, each candidate will be required to submit a paper on a specific topic such as playing concept and tactics.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou will be able to interact with coaches of a similar level of experience, teach them, learn from them, give and receive feedback, and ultimately be assessed against [the] academy competency criteria for Level Three and Level Four Awards,\u201d Oliviera added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
