{"id":43048,"date":"2017-03-23T09:37:55","date_gmt":"2017-03-23T07:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=43048"},"modified":"2017-03-23T09:37:57","modified_gmt":"2017-03-23T07:37:57","slug":"fire-scare-at-kamuzu-central-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/03\/23\/fire-scare-at-kamuzu-central-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire scare at Kamuzu Central Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was commotion at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) Wednesday afternoon as smoke billowed from a children\u2019s ward at the facility.<\/p>\n<p>According to an eyewitness, Julius Sibonga, most of the guardians moved out of the ward with their patients when a commotion ensued.<\/p>\n<p>Sibonga said the smoke started from the kitchen and spread to the ward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAround 2pm, we heard people screaming and we rushed to the scene. The Electrical Supervisor went there and noted that the cause of the smoke was a short circuit at the main switch. The situation made people flee the ward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When <em>The Daily Times <\/em>crew visited the hospital, people who were in the children\u2019s ward had been evacuated, only empty beds could be seen.<\/p>\n<p>Some guardians were seen making calls telling their relatives to come and pick them.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital\u2019s spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n<p>This comes barely a few days after fire gutted part of Carlsberg Malawi\u2019s brewery section at Makata Industrial Area in Blantyre destroying property worth millions of kwacha.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There was commotion at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) Wednesday afternoon as smoke billowed from a children\u2019s ward at the facility.
