Barely six weeks after Malawian heavyweight boxer Mussa Ajibu knocked out his Kenyan counterpart, Ramadhan Kaminja, within 40 seconds, details have emerged that he is not affiliated to Kenyan Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC).<\/p>\n
Kaminja was whisked away by police officers after irate fans bayed for his blood following his unconvincing displays during the non-title heavyweight eight-rounder at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
In an e-mail addressed to several boxing bodies in Africa, the Kenyan body disowned Kaminja.<\/p>\n
\u201cKPBC is not aware of nor has it released any boxer by the name Ramadhan Kaminja to fight. This [he] is not a Kenyan boxer nor is he licensed to fight or participate in any boxing activities in Kenya or internationally,\u201d reads the e-mail from KPBC Public Relations Officer, Jimmy Shigi.<\/p>\n
He faulted Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) for not verifying with KPBC over the credentials of the boxer whose records on boxrec.com and fightstart.com <\/em>indicate that he is Tanzanian.<\/p>\n Shigi added that KPBC was investigating the boxer and they might report him to the police.<\/p>\n \u201cMaba is either a victim of fraud and is advised to follow standard international protocol by involving the boxing commission\/ federation when it comes to releasing boxers. We request Maba to furnish us with additional information regarding how this card was planned and those involved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Shigi explained that KPBC was the only sanctioning and regulating body for professional boxing in Kenya.<\/p>\n Maba Pro-Wing Chairperson, Daudi Chikwanje, refused to comment, saying he had not received KPBC\u2019s e-mail.<\/p>\n However, after the fight, Chikwanje insisted that a boxer can reside in any country.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have Isaac Chilemba from Malawi and he fights from South Africa whereas Charles Manyuchi from Zimbabwe fights from Zambia.
