Southern Region Youth Football Association (SRYA) Chairperson, Duncan Jumbe, has called on Blantyre District Youth Football Association to run the Under-14 League professionally.<\/p>\n
The call comes after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Youth Development Officer, James Sangala and footballer follower, Isaac Jomo Osman rescued the league with K500,000 sponsorship.<\/p>\n
The league was unsponsored for three years.<\/p>\n
In view of this, Jumbe said there was need for transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two are the youth and they have set an example for others to emulate. It does not mean that they have a lot to spend but they are concerned with our soccer standards. I urge the administrators of the league to ensure transparency and accountability because it is the only way we can win their [Sangala and Osman] trust,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Top three teams will receive cash prize and kits. Outstanding players will also be rewarded.<\/p>\n
The league, which previously was sponsored by Kachere Bakeries, was stagnant for three years due to lack of sponsorship.<\/p>\n
Sangala said most of the Blantyre-based players that featured for the Flames were products of this league.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt shows that this league is very important towards the development of the sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Taking his turn, Osman said the league will help bridge the gap in youth football structures.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, we should commend Football Association of Malawi for introducing the Fam\/Fifa Under-15 League which has graduated into the Under-16 League. This shows that there is need to cater for players at the Under-l4 level so that they should graduate to the Under-16 League. It pains us to see some players failing to make it in the Super League just because they were not taught the basic skill at the junior level,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Blantyre District Youth Football League General Secretary, Joseph Semu, said all players for the participating teams underwent age screening.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
