{"id":42898,"date":"2017-03-21T09:46:37","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T07:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=42898"},"modified":"2017-03-21T09:46:38","modified_gmt":"2017-03-21T07:46:38","slug":"no-cell-for-females-at-nkhunga-police-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/03\/21\/no-cell-for-females-at-nkhunga-police-station\/","title":{"rendered":"No cell for females at Nkhunga Police Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inmates at Nkhunga Police Station in Dwangwa are having their right to privacy violated as the station has no female holding cell.<\/p>\n<p>The station only has one cell for male suspects and keeps female suspects in the corridor to the male cell. The cell for males has no door, a situation that enables the male suspects to see everything in the corridor where female suspects are kept.<\/p>\n<p>The station\u2019s Officer-in-Charge, Grinton Mitayi, said the inmates also share ablution facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation is not good, but we have no choice since we have one cell for males only. About toilet facilities, they[male and female inmates] have to share. We understand that the inmates have a right to privacy and females especially, require a private place,\u201d Mitayi said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said since they have one cell, young people in conflict with the law are mixed with adults.<\/p>\n<p>Mitayi revealed this on Sunday when Nkhotakota North Parliamentarian, Frank Mphande, handed over a hostel building he has renovated at the station.<\/p>\n<p>Mitayi said the hostel will be assisting the station to temporarily accommodate police officers who are transferred to the place as they wait to find houses.<\/p>\n<p>Mphande promised to construct a cell for females at the station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation here is of great concern but I have promised that I will bring construction materials in the first week of April so that building of a cell for females should begin,\u201d Mphande said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inmates at Nkhunga Police Station in Dwangwa are having their right to privacy violated as the station has no female holding cell.
