{"id":42688,"date":"2017-03-17T09:26:14","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T07:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=42688"},"modified":"2017-03-17T09:26:15","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T07:26:15","slug":"we-have-sugar-illovo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/03\/17\/we-have-sugar-illovo\/","title":{"rendered":"We have sugar\u2014Illovo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Illovo Sugar Malawi Limited has dismissed rumours pointing to sugar scarcity in the next two months insisting that it has enough stocks to meet demand.<\/p>\n<p>A message has been circulating on social media warning people of an impending sugar shortage leading to panic buying.<\/p>\n<p>But Illovo Public Relations Manager, Ireen Phalula, has dismissed the claims insisting that there is no shortage of sugar and that the company has adequate sugar stocks to last well into the beginning of the new 2017\/18 milling season.<\/p>\n<p>The new season will commence in April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cane crop is also growing well at both Nchalo and Dwangwa Estates and the company anticipates a satisfactory milling season with more than sufficient production of sugar to cater for domestic demand,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Phalula, Illovo annually observes an off-crop season between November and April during which time the company carries out maintenance works while waiting for a cut off in the rainy season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this time, the mill doesn\u2019t crush.
