Mzuzu City Council (MCC) has admitted racing against time to have Mzuzu Stadium ready for the 2017 football season.<\/p>\n
The council is under pressure as Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Facility and Transfer System Matching Manager, Casper Jangale, inspected the stadium last week and declared it unfit for hosting matches.<\/p>\n
The stadium is home to TNM Super League teams Mzuni and Moyale Barracks. Newly promoted Chitipa United might also use the same venue.<\/p>\n
Jangale asked the council to renovate the stadium\u2019s toilets and slash grass.<\/p>\n
So far the council has slashed the grass partly.<\/p>\n
With another Fam inspection expected, the council\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Karen Msiska, admitted that time was running out.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe maintenance works were planned to take place in phases. The first one was to slash the grass. The second phase is on planting the lawns,\u201d Msiska said.<\/p>\n
The third and final phases include maintaining the toilets and perimeter fence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe other grey areas as highlighted by Fam were to do with sanitation. So far, what we have managed to do is restore water supply to the toilets. We are hopeful that by the time they [Fam] come again, all will be fine,\u201d Msiska added.<\/p>\n
Fam wants to finalise the venue inspection before the new season which is expected to kickoff next month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
