Salima North West Member of Parliament, Jessie Kabwila and Malawi Congress Party\u2019s (MCP) Deputy Secretary General, Eisenhower Mkaka, have been caught in a verbal brawl over the party\u2019s constitution regarding election to or removal from positions of party members.<\/p>\n
Kabwila faulted the MCP of flouting the party\u2019s constitution by not reinstating her to the position of Publicity Secretary which she argues that she got at the party\u2019s convention hence only a convention should decide to remove her.<\/p>\n
Speaking on a whistle stop tour that she conducted in her constituency, Kabwila questioned the party\u2019s decision to remove her from the position despite being cleared of allegations that she and others members were trying to destabilise the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was chosen through a convention process and the only way I can be removed is through a convention process. Apparently, they have just given me a letter placing me back in the party without indicating anything on the [publicity secretary] position. All I am saying is MCP should follow rules and what its constitution says,\u201d Kabwila said.<\/p>\n
However, Mkaka said Kabwila was not elected through a convention but was rather appointed by the Party President, Lazarus Chakwera, hence can be removed by the same appointing authority.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt which convention was Kabwila elected? If anything, she is the one who does not understand the rules. It was the party president who selected her. As of now, the party is still searching for a person who can take up the position of Publicity Secretary. We are not breaking any rules,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
MCP National Executive Committee, chaired by Chakwera disciplined Kabwila, Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma, Joseph Njobvuyalema, Azam Mwale and Dennis Nathumba on allegations that they were causing divisions within the party\u2019s ranks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
