Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has intervened in TNM\u2019s suspension of sponsorship extension talks with Super League of Malawi (Sulom).<\/p>\n
TNM\u2019s decision has thrown domestic football in disarray as Sulom has suspended the scheduled kick off of the 2017 Super League season on April 8 2017.<\/p>\n
Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, on Sunday confirmed that their legal team had joined forces with their Sulom counterparts after TNM shelved the contract renewal talks.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur legal team has joined forces with Sulom and we have also sought the intervention of the Minister of Youth, Sports, Labour and Manpower Development [Henry Mussa] on the matter,\u201d Nyamilandu explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very concerned about the situation and we will do everything in our power to lobby for the suspension to be lifted.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the current deal expiring on April 12 2017, TNM suspended the talks in reaction to The Competition and Fair Trading Commission\u2019s (CFTC) recent statement that the sponsorship agreement has an element of unfair trading practices for restricting the involvement of other mobile phone service providers\u2019 entry into elite football sponsorship.<\/p>\n
TNM\u2019s decision comes a week after its rival Airtel Malawi and Fam signed a three-year K198 million sponsorship deal for a national knock-out cup.<\/p>\n
In a statement released over the weekend, Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, said they were dismayed \u201cwith the fact that the complainant in this matter is not known and CFTC proceeded to act in line with their mandate.<\/p>\n
The statement added: \u201cCFTC has also failed to differentiate football sponsorship and corporate social responsibility.\u201d CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Malonda, said she can only grant an interview Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
