In a quest to assist government in reducing maternal deaths, TNM, in partnership with mHealth Alliance have launched a mobile health service called Thanzi Lathu.<\/p>\n
Thanzi Lathu will give TNM customers the opportunity to receive maternal medical tips via SMS on a daily basis. mHealth Alliance is a non-profit organisation that advocates for health services.<\/p>\n
Announcing the launch of the service, TNM Chief Commercial Officer, Daniel Makata said the initiative demonstrates the company\u2019s commitment to complement government efforts to reduce maternal deaths in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a patriotic Malawian company, TNM is very passionate about the well-being of mothers and children and wishes to leverage on its mobile and ICT capabilities to Malawians to help save lives,\u201d Makata said.<\/p>\n
Makata said the service aims at creating a medically informed society of TNM customers as the use of mobile technology will provide medical support especially for women in motherhood.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe core target for Thanzi Lathu is to address maternal health challenges hence messages will be primarily targeted for women and family members such as husbands or even siblings who can add value to the good health of mothers,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
He reaffirmed TNM\u2019s commitment to assist government in the provision of quality health services.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe feel obliged to play our part in assisting government meet some of the social needs such as health. The company is aware of the numerous challenges that the health sector faces which require a joint effort both from government and the private sector,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Malawi has one of the highest maternal mortality rate globally, currently estimated at 574 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births and lack of information remains one of contributing factors.<\/p>\n
