Attorney General (AG) Kalekeni Kaphale has distanced himself from the issue of the 13 case files of individuals named in the forensic audit report which revealed of K236 billion that was allegedly stolen from the government\u2019s purse.<\/p>\n
Parliament\u2019s Public Accounts Committee (Pac) yesterday summoned the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the Auditor General and the Attorney General to find a solution to the misunderstandings that have been rocking the four parties.<\/p>\n
According to Menyani, when the committee asked for progress of the 13 cases, the Attorney General said he has not been briefed by ACB and therefore he is not going to be part and parcel of the discussion.<\/p>\n
After a two hour deliberation in the meeting, the committee sent the Attorney General outside together with his delegation in order to give room to the committee to map the way forward.<\/p>\n
Menyani said in an interview that his committee cannot be bound by Attorney General\u2019s procedures as the committee has the power to summon anyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have mandate from Parliamentary Standing Orders to summon anybody else to come before our committee and present what they may have so that when there are differences we should find solutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Menyani further disclosed that there are 50 case files of individuals named in the K236 billion forensic audit report not just the 13 that have been mentioned all along.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we were progressing with the matter, ACB opened up to the committee on the progress of the 13 cases. Actually the files are not just 13, there are 50, meaning there will be 37 files more,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Pac will be meeting Kaphale, Auditor General Stephenson Kamphasa and the Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General Lukas Kondowe Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
