{"id":41943,"date":"2017-03-07T09:05:41","date_gmt":"2017-03-07T07:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=41943"},"modified":"2017-03-07T09:05:44","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T07:05:44","slug":"fmb-in-green-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/03\/07\/fmb-in-green-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"FMB in green campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>F<\/strong>MB recently teamed up with Blantyre City Council and pupils from Nyambadwe Primary School to plant trees at Nyambadwe Hill as part of its campaign to make the city greener.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative\u2014which was championed by FMB Blantyre Branch\u2014saw close to 3,00 trees planted on the hill with a promise that they will continue planting trees there to bring back its lost glory.<\/p>\n<p>Blantyre FMB Branch Manager, Elizabeth Charwita, said the bank decided to implement the initiative because of the rising effects of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not happy with floods or climate change effects because it is our customers who get affected. We want to avoid such disasters,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said FMB takes pride cultivating green cover which contributes to good rains hence the decision to partner Nyambadwe Primary School and city council officials in the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Blantyre City Mayor, Wild Ndipo, who was guest of honour at the event, urged communities to protect trees, saying they contribute to good rainfall pattern, among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to FMB for the gesture and the onus is on communities to take care of the trees. We don\u2019t want to hear of deforestation because that is detrimental to the environment,\u201d Ndipo said.<\/p>\n<p>He said other companies and individuals should also take the lead in planting trees to avoid calamities that come with deforestation or climate change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are experiencing more floods in cities because of rampant deforestation.
