TNM Super League rookies Chitipa United risk spending outside their K70 million budget if they do not realise their dream of using Karonga Stadium.<\/p>\n
The club is worried that the stadium, which is under construction, will take longer than anticipated.<\/p>\n
Chitipa General Secretary yesterday said the team\u2019s last option was Mzuzu Stadium, which is 340 kilometers away from the new comers\u2019 base.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe stadium is far from being completed. That means we will have to travel all the way to Mzuzu to play our home games and obviously we will be coughing more than the budgeted amount,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that the team was finalising Club Licensing System processes, adding they are closing in on a sponsorship deal with a Kenyan company.<\/p>\n
The 20, 000-seater Karonga facility was expected to wind up by this week.<\/p>\n
The K504 million Local Development Fund (LDF)\u2013sponsored project started in October 2015 but the construction work has delayed due to workers\u2019 boycotts over unpaid dues.<\/p>\n
Karonga District Council Director of Administration, James Tembo, insisted that on the onset of the project, they made it clear that the construction will be completed within four years.<\/p>\n
He said the council is taking its time on the project, so as to have a facility that is long-lasting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
