Police have said they are capable of probing the murder of an Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) official, Issa Njauju.<\/p>\n
This is despite last week\u2019s motion by Nkhotakota South East Member of Parliament, Everson Makowa Mwale, that United Kingdom\u2019s Scotland Yard should be invited to assist in the investigations.<\/p>\n
In an interview yesterday, National Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, said they are still investigating the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe incident happened a long time ago. But we are still working on it. It is a complex issue. Evidence was not at one place. We have to interview a number of people. This is what is delaying the exercise. But for sure the investigations will be concluded,\u201d Kadadzera said.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cWe have shown that we can conclude investigations. We have been able to arrest suspects in a number of cases. For example, we have been able to arrest a suspect in the murder of [Evangelist Shadreck] Wame.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kadadzera also cited the arrest of suspects in the murder of a taxi driver at Ekwendeni in Mzimba and several other suspects in the killings of people with albinism.<\/p>\n
Njauju was killed in July 2015 and his body was found half-buried behind the presidential villas in Lilongwe, while his official vehicle was found burnt at Mtsiliza, a slum which is a few kilometres west of Bingu National Stadium.<\/p>\n
Three people have so far been arrested in connection with the murder but the police have been continuously saying they are still investigating the issue.<\/p>\n
One of the suspects, a police officer, Titus Thombozi, has been fighting bail since his arrest in September last year.<\/p>\n
Frank John who was arrested after being found in possession of Njauju\u2019s mobile phone, was remanded at Maula Prison.<\/p>\n
But another police officer who was also arrested after he allegedly claimed he knew Njauju\u2019s killers, was granted bail.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
