The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Malawi, Marchel Gerrmann has said the EU will continue supporting Malawi\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to support Malawi; we want to support the Malawi economy. EU is part of the growth in Malawi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the state of the country, Gerrmann said the country primarily needs to be food secure so that its citizens do not suffer from hunger like the past year.<\/p>\n
He said good harvest would be important for the country\u2019s economy which he said can improve.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course it is important that there should be good micro-economic policies,\u201d the EU ambassador said.<\/p>\n
Gerrmann said that the EU is also investing in technical vocational training and has set aside \u20ac35 million (approximately K27 billion) for the next four years.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I said earlier, EU is part of the growth in Malawi. We are investing in training so that people get the skills. We are investing in secondary education and education as a whole and so, these are the key priorities of the European Union and fits within our strategy,\u201d Gerrmann.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile the EU ambassador on Tuesday visited Jacaranda School for Orphans where he said he was impressed with what the school was doing in promoting education.<\/p>\n
The ambassador donated some items to the school such as socere balls<\/p>\n
The visit was part of the Southern Region tour as he is launching the Improving Secondary Education Programme in Malawi (ISEM).<\/p>\n
Jacaranda School for Orphans Executive Director Luc Deschamps, who is also French Honorary Consul, said they were excited with the EU ambassador\u2019s visit adding that France is the second largest contributor to the European Union budget.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
