{"id":41664,"date":"2017-03-02T08:11:06","date_gmt":"2017-03-02T06:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=41664"},"modified":"2017-03-02T08:11:09","modified_gmt":"2017-03-02T06:11:09","slug":"escom-holds-workshop-to-mentor-female-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/03\/02\/escom-holds-workshop-to-mentor-female-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Escom holds workshop to mentor female staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) last week held a workshop on women empowerment and capacity building for its senior female managers.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was meant to enhance leadership and management skills for workplace effectiveness and career progression.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, Director of Gender in the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Peter Msefula, urged the women not to undermine themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Msefula said some women look down on themselves even though they possess the right qualifications to do a particular job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou ne ed to be aggressive to overcome these stereotypes,\u201d Msefula said.<\/p>\n<p>Escom Social and Gender Inclusion Manager, Elube Chienda, said only 10 percent of the people in decision making positions at Escom are women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMen dominate in this industry than women but it is not that women do not qualify but because they are being frustrated,\u201d Chienda said.<\/p>\n<p>But she said Escom has put in place strategies to reverse the trend and in the process create an environment where both men and women thrive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) last week held a workshop on women empowerment and capacity building for its senior female managers.
