{"id":41581,"date":"2017-03-01T08:54:22","date_gmt":"2017-03-01T06:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=41581"},"modified":"2017-03-01T08:54:25","modified_gmt":"2017-03-01T06:54:25","slug":"emma-mdzagada-still-bedridden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/03\/01\/emma-mdzagada-still-bedridden\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Mdzagada still bedridden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Malawi Netball Queens star Emma Mdzagada is battling for life at her home in Chilomoni Township, Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>During her peak, she was a darling to many as a shooter for several teams including MTL Queens (now Thunder Queens).<\/p>\n<p>She established herself before earning a place in the national team.<\/p>\n<p>Today Mdzagada is not well. She has been ill since 2009 when she started experience pains in her legs.<\/p>\n<p>And later she started experiencing back pains until she was told that there was need for an operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was during this time when I was referred to Dr Nyengo Mkandawire that one of my legs developed another problem. I had to go for an operation which established that there was a hole inside,\u201d Mdzagada explained.<\/p>\n<p>She added that despite undergoing the operation things have not changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have tried to reach out to Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) to assist but they have not responded,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Nam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Further asked whether Nam was aware of Mdzagada\u2019s illness, Bapu maintained that she had no comment.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Chilomoni social football teams \u2013 Pamgodi, The Boys and Chilomoni Socials on Sunday cheered the ailing Mdzagada.<\/p>\n<p>Although the three teams are bitter rivals during their social games, they united to donate assorted grocery items to the Queens\u2019 legend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving read in the press about the sickness of Mdzagada, we thought we should help,\u201d Foster Bulla, Chilomoni Socials\u2019 player said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had time to chat with her and she shared with us so many stories. She is the bread winner and now that she is ill, she needs help. I just want to call upon Netball Association of Malawi and other well-wishers to help her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite being in pain and struggling to sit upright, Mdzagada shared memories of her netball career.<\/p>\n<p>Her journey in netball started with City of Blantyre before moving to Produsak then Whitex.<\/p>\n<p>She later joined Silver Strikers, before moving to Postnet which was renamed MTL Queens and now Thunder Queens. Mdzagada played for Thunder until 2010.<\/p>\n<p>She started playing for the national team in 1995, travelling to many countries.
