Patience Namadingo broke his own record on Saturday when he attracted an impressive audience during an All New Namadingo concert at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
It was a concert that gave the artist a test of his popularity, as he performed without curtain-raisers.<\/p>\n
BICC is one of the biggest venues in the country and has gained ground because it has all the ingredients required to host top artists.<\/p>\n
But, at the end of it all, Namadingo got the answers that saw him excel with flying colours.<\/p>\n
BICC has hosted several acts including US jazz maestro Earl Klugh, who did not perform alone but shared the stage with the country\u2019s renowned artist Peter Mawanga.<\/p>\n
South Africa\u2019s singer Zahara has also performed at the venue but she shared the stage with Mtebeti Wambali Mkandawire.<\/p>\n
But there was no artist to warm up the stage for the Msati Mseke hit maker, who chose to go it alone, save for the backing from his band.<\/p>\n
Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) President, Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, described Namadingo\u2019s performance as impressive.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat an impressive performance. We need such performances if we are to attract good audiences. Time has come for people to know that we have musicians that are getting better and strong,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n
The Mum president said Namadingo has come of age and that other artists can learn from him.<\/p>\n
With Chisomo Ngondo on the keyboard, Godfrey on lead guitar, Aaron on bass guitar and Levi Phiri on drums, Namadingo had planned to perform only for three hours but was forced to perform for long because of the overwhelming support.<\/p>\n
He was creative on stage, giving the audience something different and unique.<\/p>\n
The artist breathed more fresh air into his act, which forced the audience to sing along.<\/p>\n
Some of the songs that he belted out on the night included \u2018Even Thou\u2019, \u2018Onani\u2019, \u2018BaYesu\u2019, \u2018Tandigwireni\u2019, \u2018Nyimbo Zakwathu\u2019, \u2018My Man\u2019 and \u2018Rehanna\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe put more effort into this show, we prepared well and it was all because of the hard work,\u201d Namadingo said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the show, we received a word from Umodzi Park management congratulating us for bringing the highest number of people to the venue since the hall started hosting performances. We thank God because people know that Malawi can and is doing it,\u201d Namadingo said.<\/p>\n
He, however, bemoaned lack of support from the corporate world saying all proposals sent hit a dead end.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought many companies would give us support but only Times Group believed in us and came out to support us. It was a challenge to put up a K6.2 million budget show,\u201d Namadingo said.<\/p>\n
Namadingo, who has made strides since rebranding\u2014 following the release of his Lero album\u2014 said people should watch out for more exciting performances.<\/p>\n
